City of Courtenay on Vancouver Island Issues an Invitation to Architects for the new RCMP Building

The City of Courtenay has appointed Blair Pettis as project manager to oversee the planning and construction of a new RCMP building for the Comox Valley. Twenty-three submissions were made to the call of Expressions of Interest from qualified Architectural firms for the planning and design. The submissions have been reviewed by Sandy Gray, Kevin Lagan, Tillie Manthey and the project manager Blair Pettis; the following five applicants have been invited to submit to an RFP; Stantec Engineering, Omicron Architects, Engineers & Consultants Ltd., DGBK Architects, Grant and Sinclair Architects, KMBR Architects. Two of these candidates will be short listed and interviewed by staff and Councillors Ambler and Presley. The new building will be built on a vacant site on Harmston Avenue and Cumberland Road in Courtenay and will replace the existing RCMP facilities on Ryan Road. The City is prepared to allocate $40,000 from this year’s budget to cover design costs, and it has provisionally allocated $20 – $30 million for construction in 2010.  Contact: www.courtenay.ca
