The Vancouver Island Mountain Sports Society has awarded AFC Construction Ltd. with the contract for construction of their new sport facility near Raven Lodge on Vancouver Island’s Mount Washington.

Preparation of the site is underway and the building is expected to be completed in March of 2011. Once this Vancouver Island sport facility has been completed, it will feature an accessible training centre.

This Vancouver Island project has received $795,000 in federal funding towards the construction that will include a visitors’ centre, a dorm-style hostel, a kitchen and fitness facilities. Additional funding has been received for the project from the Island Coastal Economic Trust and the Coast Sustainability Trust.  In addition, Mount Washington Alpine Resort has made a land donation towards this Vancouver Island project.

The Vancouver Island Mountain Sports Society has stated that the facility is expected to create between 25 to 30 permanent jobs.
