WorkSafe BC Offers Vancouver Island Safety Presentations in November

WorkSafeBC events Vancouver IslandWorkSafeBC -Vancouver Island is offering free educational presentations in November to discuss and review with employers and workers the challenges of working at heights, and to learn about health and safety best practices.
Falls from Elevations accounted for 17% of all short term, long term and fatal claims in the BC construction industry in 2009. They also accounted for 32% of the 139 million dollar claim costs for the industry in 2009.
The sessions will provide the participants with a clear understanding of the responsibilities and legal requirements of working at heights on construction worksites, by touching on applicable sections of the Workers Compensation Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation. We will also look at the process of accurately assessing the hazards and planning the work so that the health and safety of workers is properly addressed.
Network with peers while learning about, and discussing a variety of health and safety issues including those identified in WorkSafeBC Construction High-Risk Strategy.
Two sessions will be held (2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.) in the following communities on the following dates:
Tuesday, Nov. 1 – Port Hardy
Wednesday, Nov. 2 – Campbell River
Thursday, Nov. 3 – Courtenay
Wednesday, Nov. 9 – Powell River
Tuesday, Nov. 15 – Ucluelet
Wednesday, Nov. 16 – Port Alberni
Thursday, Nov. 17 –Nanaimo
Tuesday, Nov. 22 – Duncan
Wednesday, Nov. 23 –Victoria
