Vancouver Island Golf Community Sees New Home Construction

Builders are busy at Crown Isle in Courtenay, as new homes are going up in the Vancouver Island golf community.
The future is looking bright, Jason Andrew, director of real estate at Crown Isle, recently told the Comox Valley Echo.
“Within Crown Isle we have nine different builders working here right now,” he said.
“We were a little worried that the apprehension around HST would put a hindrance on new construction this year but in the last eight months we’ve seen more homes built than in the 12 months prior.”
With the recession over and more jobs generated through government stimulus, buyers are looking to invest in new homes. Sales are slow this winter, but activity is expected to pick-up in the spring and builders want to be ready for it, Andrew said.
Courtenay has seen the value of building permits for residential homes rise between January and December from $18.3 million in 2009 to $24 million in 2010. Numbers still lag behind the construction boom of 2007, which saw residential permit value reach $50.4 million.
