But the large majority of the 5,266 sales registered through the <a title="Greater Victoria Real Estate Board" href="http://www.vreb.org/" target="_blank">Greater Victoria Real Estate Board</a> were for more modest prices, with the average single-family home going for $613,839.<br />
Among the 204 sales that were for more than $1 million last year, 139 were between $1 million and $1.49 million, board data shows. The $1.5 million to $1.9 million category had 47 sales, and there were to 13 in the $2 million to $2.9 million group. Three homes sold in the $3 million to $3.9 million category, and two sold fro between $6 million and $6.9 million.<br />
Of these million dollar homes, 166 were waterfront single-family houses.<br />
An Oak Bay waterfront house at 3155 Beach Dr., which sold for $6.5 million, fetched the year&#8217;s top price.<br />
Last week there were 235 residential properties listed for $1 million or more on the MLS. Of those, 13 were priced at $5 million or higher.<br />
Every Greater Victoria municipality has homes topping the $1-million mark.<br />
B.C. Assessment released it assessment numbers for 144,000 Victoria region properties last week.<br />
The average residential assessment is between $500,000 and $600,000 in most areas. Oak Bay has the highest average at $887,000, followed by North Saanich at $777,000.</p>

“Purchasing one of these condos is an excellent investment move, considering the superior construction quality and oceanfront location,” said Brad Neufeld, director of sales for the Oak Bay Beach Hotel. “If you purchased a 750-square-foot downtown condo in Victoria, you’d be lucky to get an average annualreturn of 2 per cent, factoring all the extra costs that come along with traditional real estate investment properties.”<br />

The $52M rebuild project first broke ground in 2009, three years after the hotel’s 80-year-old namesake was deemed beyond repair.<br />
In addition to becoming Victoria’s first luxury hotel and spa with private residences, the hotel is also being built to LEED Gold Certified standards.<br />

The final decision has not yet been made on which company will be awarded the coveted job as general contractor. Defence Construction Canada, the federal body responsible for military construction, typically takes about 30 days to review bids for a decision. The successful bidder is expected to break ground on the 20,539 square-metre project this fall.<br />
Expected to take three years to build, the new helicopter building will house nine new Sikorsky CH-148 Cyclone helicopters for 443 Maritime Helicopter Squadron, part of Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt.<br />
This new building will replace a 60-year-old hangar housing six CH-124 Sea Kings. It will have office space, a training and maintenance area, and a garage for the choppers.<br />
Federal officials earlier figured that construction would create 800 jobs, but Ross MacLean, past chairman of the Island construction association, told the Victoria Times Colonist that he believes the eventual number will be higher.<br />
&#8220;It is a huge economic impact,&#8221; he said.<br />
Bidders used a new electronic bidding system offered jointly through the Island association and the B.C. Construction Association, MacLean said. This technology was developed specifically for these associations to create a more efficient way of putting together a bid.</p>

These suites will be rented to the residents who will enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the facility.<br />
